review of WALL-E

I enjoyed the first half of this movie but the second half was a real let down. The story became so predictable that I actually wanted to leave before it was over. I didn't though. I thought the ending was strange. Who believes that these fat, stupid humans, who shouldn't be able to stand because of the gravity, would really be able to live on earth now? Not me. Of course the animation was amazing but great movies are always about great stories and Wall-E doesn't come close.

My rating; 5 out of 10

I am boundless space.
The world is a clay pot.

This is the truth.

There is nothing to accept,
Nothing to reject,
Nothing to dissolve.

The Importance of Listening

There Is a Place Beyond Ambition

When the flute players
couldn't think of what to say next

they laid down their pipes,
then they lay down themselves
beside the river

and just listened.
Some of them, after a while,
jumped up
and disappeared back inside the busy town.
But the rest-
so quiet, not even thoughtful-
are still there,

still listening.

-Mary Oliver

I love this poem by Mary Oliver. It describes where I am right now; listening ....... Doing things seems less and less important.

Death Be Not Proud

Death Be Not Proud

by John Donne
(1572-1631)

DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then;
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.

My father-in-law, Bill Pringle, died one week ago. His memorial service is today in Phoenix but I can't be there. I wish I was.
